2006 has been an exceptional year for big catches of carp. The fish have really taken hold and not only have they been gracing the nets of many an angler but the growth rates have been amazing. Most of the fish stocked three years ago where only between 4-8 inches and now they have reached weights in excess of 19lb! Carp have their main growth period in the first five years which paves the way for their future development for the rest of their life, so if a carp can reach 30lb in five years who knows what size could be acheived with the best possible conditions and quality food. 2007 will be a very exciting year for Carpenwater as the carp go into the 20lb mark and the catfish catches should also increase.

In the last two months over 20 double figure carp have been reported, all of which are in perfect condition.

Towards the end of summer 2005 various anglers have reported excellent catches, one regular visitor, Glen Owen had an outstanding days fishing in September. Glen managed to land 22 carp with 10 into double figures and the biggest fish pulled the scales to 14lb 6oz.
Bob, another regular visitor fished a wet and windy day during October and managed to land the white Koi "Ben" whilst fishing on light tackle, after a 15minute battle around the lake the koi weighed in at just over 17lb!
We had lots of other good catches reported between August and November so next year should see another good season for all.
