Carp.stock...
As the lake had
never been stocked before we had a few options to consider before purchasing
some fish.
We could
have stocked the lake with larger carp and run the risk of them not setling
in or picking up unknown parasites resulting in fish deaths. The other option
was to buy the carp in smaller sizes and let them grow to the required size.
After careful thought we decided to purchase several hundred fast growing
King Carp to see how things would progress. We also decided it would be good
to stock some Ghost Carp as they are very hardy fish and make a nice change
from the usual common carp.
Two years on and the carp have really packed on the pounds with many approaching
double figures and well past it. By the end of the summer 2006 we should have
our first twenty on the bank!
We have a continual stocking programme in place to ensure the fish stocks
remain healthy and of the correct level to promote good fishing. The fish
are also fed on a special immuno boost pellets during the spring to help them
recover from the winter period ensuring the fish start the new season healthy.
The actual stock level is not fully known due to some fish losses from cormorants
when we first stocked the lake but, we have classed the fishery as a runs
water where you will get a good bend in the rod!
The average size of carp caught during September 2005 was between 6 and 11lb
with an average of 8 fish in twelve hours. Some, more experienced anglers
caught upwards of twenty fish in a twelve hour session.

One of the stock
carp, a future 20lb fish!
